love: my word for 2017

hey there lovelies and a very happy monday and a happy new year to you all! i hope you had a fantastic holiday season and are looking forward to a fabulous new year 🙂 today i wanted to talk a little about love: my word for 2017 <3

every year i choose a word i want to embody that year, and this year’s word is love.

i don’t necessarily mean romantic love.

i am talking more about self love.

i read a line by brene brown recently suggesting that you simply cannot really love another person unless you first love yourself.

the end of 2016 was hard for me – my beloved furry soul mate murphy died. that threw me entirely off my axis (and it still makes me cry now – nearly 2 months later).

i had some frustrating news with regards to some local work i have been doing, which lead to a not very happy and fairly solitary christmas time.

i am so ready to put it all behind me.

i do believe that it all comes down to the self love issue. i would be less easily affected and less easily destroyed by circumstances and feelings if i truly was able to love myself.

that’s why i chose love as my word of the year.

i want to make 2017 the year that i finally love myself truly and make myself less vulnerable therefore to criticism, rejection and feelings of not being enough.

i know that there’s no magic wand solution here – i will still feel those feelings no doubt, but they won’t be able to rock me to my very core quite so easily.

i created this piece of art to celebrate my new word – which i do every year. it is part of the creative challenge for my curiously gorgeous sisterhood members during january too 🙂

january is a great time to start afresh with different ideas and a brilliant time to invest in yourself. we’ve all given generously to others during christmas no doubt. now it’s time to treat ourselves!

with that in mind, i have a lovely new offer to share with you all 🙂

  1. You are so right that one needs to love yourself first – without that you lose your self-confidence and self-worth. Your start you not only doubt yourself on many levels, but will tend to be less creative.
Thank you for reminding us that “LOVE is all you need”!

  2. I’ve been reading a fabulous book called Learned Optimism with research-proven ways to alter your personal dialogue and change outlook. If you’re looking for a good book to help with your 2017 journey, it might be worth looking into. =)
