Hey there lovelies and a very happy Wednesday to you, wherever in the world you may be. Today I wanted to share with you A Book Review: The Avalon Series <3
I have been really enjoying this set of books by Marion Zimmer Bradley and thought you might to learn a little about them too.
I have been reading through this series – I have four of the seven so far (with another winging it’s way to me in the post as I type!). I did end up reading them entirely out of sync by accident but that hasn’t spoiled my enjoyment at all. Let me share my thoughts on the series so far.
The Mists of Avalon – this is the first book written, but chronologically it’s at the end of the series. It deals with the priestesses and druids of Pagan Britain and the coming of King Arthur. It’s a book I really enjoyed, and I found myself really becoming attached to the very strong female characters (with the exception of the hysterically Christian Gwynefar).
The Forests of Avalon – this deals with Roman Britain and the struggle of the old religions and Christianity against the Roman empire. Here the women have little power, but what power they do have they wield it as best they can. It’s a time of great struggle and moon magic – I really loved the read.
The Lady of Avalon – this is the first set up of the Avalon seat of ancient power for the priestesses, led by Caillean. Gawen is a mix of both Magical Druidic and Roman lineage, and there is great hope surrounding his future and the future of Britain. This is my current read – I am only part way through. I am loving the growing strength of the female characters in this one.
Here is my current read on the bedside table, surrounded by my crystals and my sleeping goddess too from Brigid’s Grove :)
I am loving our new master bedroom and our super comfortable king size bed! It really is so much easier to get a good night’s sleep with such a lovely space to sleep in!
A home tour post is definitely long overdue at this stage!
